Writing Prompt 4

1.Define the geocentric and heliocentric theories of the solar system.  Describe the influence of the Islamic culture on the understanding of the heliocentric understanding of the solar system.  

2.Describe the route the potato took from South America to North America and it’s impact on the lives of one specific country europeans.

3.Compare and contrast two early explorers of North America.

4.Use your timeline and notes from the film “Science and Islam”  to hypothesis the interactions Mughal empire and Ottoman empires and the Ottoman’s push to expand into Europe.

5.Imagine you are a citizen of Wallachia during the time of Vlad the Impaler. Write a letter to a relative describing the invasion of the Ottomans and Vlads defense of your homeland.

6.Describe the Columbian exchange.  Describe in detail examples of the foods, people and ideas that flowed between the two regions.

7.Use the map of Africa to compare and contrast the explorations of two Portuguese explorers of Africa.

Writing Prompt 3 questions for 10/27/17


Describe in detail two pieces of evidence that  supports the idea that the Inca Empire was overthrown from within the society and not conquered by the Spanish.

Describe the social structure of Japan during the Tokugawa Period.  Elaborate on the duties of the daimyo under the alternate attendance system.

Describe the structure corporations and their role in the age of exploration. Elaborate on one specific corporation and its role in the age of exploration.

Compare and contrast the voyages of two different explorers during the Age of exploration.


Describe life aboard the typical caravell during the age of exploration.  Elaborate on the supplies needed to outfit such expeditions.


Describe the conditions aboard a ship involved in the middle passage and the conditions it’s “passengers” faced when they arrived at their final destination.

World History Writing Prompt Two for September 27 2017

I have added a demonstration portion to this prompt...BE AWARE THAT THE DEMONSTRATION PROMPT WILL BE HIGHLY SCRUTINIZED FOR ACCURACY AND TECHNIQUE...IT IS ONE OF THE TOUGHER QUESTIONS....

 Pick two questions about the Renaissance to answer.   

Define 4 elements of art.  Using the identified elements of art to describe the Renaissance paint La Primavera by Botticelli.


Describe three specific characteristics of the relationship of the Medici to the city of Florence.


Demonstrate a one point perspective draw by using only a pencil and ruler.  You will need to demonstrate 4 elements of art in the drawing.  Explain how you used each of the elements in the drawing in a written paragraph.

Describe the historical events leading to  Machiavelli's writing of “The Prince”.  Describe two example of how the book has been used by leaders to gain and keep power.

Describe the conservative backlash against the Medici at the end of Lorenzo’s life.

World History Writing Prompt One: World Religion 8/2017

Use your notes to answer only two of the following questions


Compare and Contrast the 5 pillars of Islam with the 8 fold path in Buddhism.  Show similarities and differences between the two.  Hypothesize links between the two and how one may have influenced the other.  Give two pieces of evidence to support your idea.


Describe the Hindu caste system and its connection with the idea of dharma and karma. Analyze the caste system using the etic perspective.  Be sure to include the role of the ruling caste in the perpetuation of the system.


Define the etic view.  Define the emic view.  Describe three aspects of american culture from emic perspective.  Then describe the same aspects from the etic perspective.  


Compare and Contrast the three monotheistic religions.  Describe three specific intersection and three specific divisions in the religions.

Welcome to Mr. Price's World History Class

Welcome to Atherton.  
This blog is for Mr. Price's World History classes for the 2017-2018 school year.  I have created this page as a tool for you the students enrolled in the course to use as a resource for the daily work that will be given in World History classes.  We have designed our collaboration very deliberately.To the right you will find a link to the AGENDA and TEXTBOOK.  From day one you will be expected to check this blog daily and get assignments from it.  Some will need to be printed some will need to be emailed while others may simply be links to videos to watch and review for class discussions.  It is my hope that this collaboration will become a way for you to interact with me  in a new way that will be engaging and productive to all.  I am  looking forward to meeting and working with you this year, so thanks for your attention and let's make it a great year.
